BUYING A FIREARM

Our Policy

It is this store's policy to sell firearms to North Carolina residents ONLY! All firearms sales to out-of-state residents must be shipped to a dealer in the purchaser’s state of residence where the purchaser can take possession of the weapon.

Handguns

To purchase a handgun you must be; a resident of North Carolina, at least 21 years old, have a valid state issued photo identification with your name, address, birth date and signature on it; additionally, you must have a pistol permit from the sheriff of the county you live in. If you have a valid North Carolina Concealed Carry Permit you can use this in place of the pistol permit.

To obtain a pistol permit contact your county sheriff to learn the exact procedures involved. Procedures vary widely from county to county. Permits cost $5.00 each and are valid for five years (generally) from date of issue no matter who the current sheriff is or where you live in North Carolina. These pistol permits are good for any handgun at any firearms retailer in the state and are surrendered (one for each handgun purchased) at the time of purchase to the dealer. To obtain a Concealed Carry Permit see our Concealed Permit page.

In Wake County application is made downtown Raleigh at the Wake County Sheriff's Office (Salisbury St. opposite the Wake County Courthouse). When you apply you will be given a phone number to call in about a week to see if your permit(s) are done. You can apply for up to five permits at one time. There are additional requirements if you are a resident alien (see below).
